BTM’s Malaysia Equities Portfolio

Dec 2021

Portfolio value: +1%
Dividends for the month: RM29.50
Total YTD dividends: RM1,375.35

My portfolio of Malaysian stocks continue to yo-yo up and down from month to month. The dividends for the year for the REITs held in my portfolio has been underperforming for the year given that they are mainly retail mall REITs. However, given the pick up of economy towards the end of the year and increase footprints in malls, I expect the rentals to pick up in the coming year. Hopefully then, the performance of my dividend stocks will come through.

TENAGA took quite a beating from RM12 to RM9 now. However, their dividends are still strong. So let’s observe more.

UEM Edgenta has been underperforming terribly for the year, but I am not cutting it out for now.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Dec 21)

Nov 2021

Portfolio value: -2%
Dividends for the month: RM97.62
Total YTD dividends: RM1,345.85

Total portfolio value down again as foreign investors withdraw funds from the country and the new virus comes knocking. The Malaysian economy is slowly recovering and more footprints in malls. This is hopefully good news for my mall REITs provided that there are no more lockdowns. My eyes are on UEM Edgenta though… Would the dividends come back?

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Nov 21)

Oct 2021

Portfolio value: +1%
Dividends for the month: RM223.52
Total YTD dividends: RM1,248.23

Dividends came from TENAGA and Maybank. Both have decent dividend yields at YTD 7% and 4% respectively for me. The dividends from my mall REITs hopefully going to improve soon with the reopening of the Malaysian economy. Still not keen to top up any investment in Malaysia at this juncture due to the political instability and the nonsense Budget 2022 that was revealed.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Oct 21)

Sept 2021

Portfolio value: -2%
Dividends for the month: RM100.42
Total YTD dividends: RM1,024.71

Dividend crossed the RM1k mark finally! It would have been much faster if not for the underperformance of my mall REITS, but it is what it is. What happened to TNB????

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Sept 21)

Aug 2021

Portfolio value: +4%
Dividends for the month: RM178.61
Total YTD dividends: RM924.29

Looks like defensive stocks are gaining traction this month. All green except poor Atrium REIT. On the dividend front, BAUTO gave a special dividend so that’s good, but IGBREIT continues to suffer (hence, lower dividends) as the pandemic continues to strike the nation (+ how the country is being mishandled).

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Aug 21)

July 2021

Portfolio value: -2%
Dividends for the month: RM0
Total YTD dividends: RM745.68

Overall a depressing state. Super high political risk in the country with no direction. July seems to be a dry month as well with no dividends. I am considering to change my portfolio holdings, but am quite averse to making any changes now as it is mostly in a loss position.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Jul 21)

June 2021

Portfolio value: +4%
Dividends for the month: RM248.03 (AtriumREIT, Maybank, Digi)
Total YTD dividends: RM745.68

Big movement in BAUTO this month as it announced higher earnings, but then it slowly tapered off towards the end of the month. Still a long way to breakeven on this stock, but there is a special dividend this time round. Keep collecting income on this stock. This month also locked in Maybank’s dividend reinvestment plan (DRP) so the position increased slightly with a lower cost. The big winner is AtriumREIT, up 36% since my investment 7 months ago.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Jun 21)

May 2021

Portfolio value: -5%
Dividends for the month: RM133.34 (BAUTO, IGBREIT)
Total YTD dividends: RM497.65

Most of the downward move of shares came in at the last trading day of the month as Malaysia enters FMCO. There is some risk in terms of IGBREIT and SUNREIT, if this persists. Their dividend rates are already terrible as it is.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (May 21)

April 2021

Portfolio value: +1%
Dividends for the month: RM116 (TENAGA)
Total YTD dividends: RM364.31

Big upwards movement in Digi due to the announcement of its merger with Celcom (again). However, it is still a loss position for me. So just waiting and collecting dividends along the way.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Apr 21)

March 2021

Portfolio value: +2%
Dividends for the month: RM66.42 (ATRIUMREIT, SUNREIT & DIGI)
Total YTD dividends: RM248.31

No trades for the month.

More positives as the market recovers back into these defensive stocks. Happy to keep holdings these stocks for now. As for SUNREIT’s disappointing dividends, I am still of the view that it will recover in due time. I still am of the opinion that Edgenta continues to be undervalued at this point, but less so now that it has recovered substantially from the very lows.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Mar 21)

February 2021

Portfolio value: +0%
Dividends for the month: RM181.17 (BAUTO & IGBREIT)
Total YTD dividends: RM181.89

No trades for the month.

Mostly positive for the month given how badly the portfolio performed in January. The star for the month is UEM Edgenta with it surging over 10% after it released its earnings. This brings my portfolio value back to breakeven.

Change in individual stocks’ value for the month:

BTM MY Portfolio (Feb 21)

January 2021

Portfolio value: -2%
Dividends: RM0.72 (MAYBANK)
Total YTD dividends: RM0.72

Loaded more into TENAGA @ RM10 during the month as this monopoly power company continues to get battered down by the market.

My Malaysian Portfolio took a big hit by end of January. Dividend for the month came solely from Maybank and have opted in for the dividend reinvestment plan (DRP).

The individual stocks’ movements are as per the graph below.
